Restorative jam

I hope you have a clear idea of what resting means for you.

Last Thursday I wrote this:

“The last breath of creativity, to represent how little steam we got left before going to bed. When a day starts to become night, our ability to have complex arguments subsides. Less energy, less focus, less patience, less of all those things that enable us to “keep it together” when having a strong argument. A reminder that it’s okay if you don’t want to argue today, we can’t postpone forever, but you have the power to say no and thats fine. Very often, especially these busy days, resting is the best option. “

And that was it, I only got to 93 words before collapsing into bed, I believe that by organising better my resting periods, I can be more flexible in my work and more effective too.

I take Sundays seriously, no plans just winging it. That’s maybe why I also like to write on Sundays, a moment of expression and introspection, not many people around is my kind of restorative jam. Today, with fresh energy and fully restored batteries, I feel like I’m able to deliver a lot more.

I invite you to reflect on what are your restorative activities and really dig into the depths of them, especially on Sundays (if you’re lucky enough to have those days off). I say this as a way to put myself on the hook of not working during that time.

What I’m trying to say with this is, if you do enjoy your craft, always make room for you to practice a little. If I’m enjoying something it is possible for me to do it as a restorative activity and get another day of “practice” under my belt while doing much needed introspection or quiet mind activities.

Far from being a great author, my only guess is that I can focus on the ingredients great pieces of work integrate: Many hours of practice.

Some questions to trigger further reflection:

  • What can I loose my mind into?

  • Do I need to be alone for resting? or can I share the space?

  • When is my resting session?

On Sundays, I rest. From the moment I wake up, to the moment I lay down in bed, everything I do must be aligned with finding my center, finding Tomás amongst the buzz.

Go get some well deserved rest, find your restorative jam.

With love, Tomás
